Human Centered Marketing In The Age Of AI

AI can spit out 30 captions in one minute and batch 100 ideas all at once. It makes everything faster, but it does not make anything more human. The brands that stand out use AI for speed, then lead with heart & humanity.

It makes everything faster.

It does not make anything more human.

The brands that stand out use AI for speed, then lead with heart.

At Lau Method, strategy is not only about conversion. It is about connection.

The problem with perfect

Perfect content looks polished. Perfect content rarely moves anyone. What people want is honesty, context, and a reason to care. You do not need to speak louder. You need to speak like a person.

“People buy from people,

not Pixels on the screen.”

What human centered marketing really means

Human centered marketing blends psychology, storytelling, and data, in that order. One of my degrees is in psychology. Did you know that humans crave familiarity? We look for faces everywhere, even in an electrical socket. Cavemen carved out human figures on the rocks. When your brand feels familiar and relatable, people lean in (Like telling stories that are relatable!)

Yes, decisions should be made using data to back it up, but he magic comes from your voice. You want to be the storyteller, not AI. “Communicate with care and intention.” That sentence sounded a little strange, cold, and quite AI eh? Not that humans can’t write a sentence like that, but we just don’t speak like that!!

I will be sneaking in some AI sentences in the following paragraphs - see if you can spot the differences!

The Advantage Isn’t AI, It’s You

You are competing with people who use AI well. AI can help you write faster., but it cannot live your story. It cannot understand the moment your client cried happy tears, or the way you speak in “run-on sentence” because you are excited!! My advice: Use AI to save time, then spend that time adding feeling and context.

“You are not competing with AI.
You are competing with people who use AI.”

A personal note on story-telling

Around the holidays I shared a post about feeling lonely as a newcomer. I moved from Hong Kong, then rebuilt my life again after moving from Saskatoon to Kelowna. That post reached far more people than any list of brunch spots or speakeasys I posted. It was not a cry for attention, but a reminder that many of us feel the same. That is why I host community events like influencer pool parties & dinner gatherings. There are real people, making real connections, building & growing our community.

  • Tips & tricks
How to put this into practice:

  1. Start your content with a clear moment or feeling. (Story telling!!!)

  2. Give context, tell us why it matters to you, and why it would matter to them.

  3. Teach or help. Give one simple takeaway. (Like this tips & tricks section)

  4. Remove all em dash. I am a person who likes to use dashes, but it’s the shorter - the long dash is a DEAD GIVEAWAY for Chat GPT!

  5. You can tell the fake positive & the three on three blue print. Like “clarity, connection, community”. Or even in short sentences like “come hungry, bring your best energy, and get ready for some fun”. These are also very Chat GPT coded, no one CONSTANTLY speak with three examples every other sentences.

  6. Set up a prompt before you start any chat, to train AI to know your voice. (Will be writing another blog about how to write good prompts to train your AI agent!)
